Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking an experienced Chief Engineer - Human Landing System to join a diverse, highly-skilled team to create unique solutions for complex problems involving foreign weapons systems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective intelligence, engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

Dynetics is presently under contract to NASA for design and development of a Human Landing System (HLS) in preparation for NASA’s procurement of commercial services to land crew and cargo on the Moon as part of a sustained lunar presence. Dynetics intends to be a significant contributor to the U.S. national human space exploration enterprise and to stimulating and building a commercial cislunar economy. Current and planned near-term HLS efforts at Dynetics will form the foundation for those future activities. Dynetics Space Systems Division needs the most talented, most passionate managers, engineers, analysts, and technicians to achieve these objectives.

Dynetics Space Systems Division is seeking a Chief Engineer to join our diverse, highly skilled team to create unique solutions for complex problems involving space systems. The Chief Engineer (CE) has responsibility for technical leadership of the entire HLS engineering project. The CE serves as the technical interface between the engineering teams and the Program Manager (PM). The CE leads the Engineering Review Board and approves technical development plans, drawings, specifications, reports, products, and deliverables. The CE manages technical deliverables, technical data, and the system’s technical baseline. The CE ensures the engineering teams execute their technical tasks according to the technical baseline.

The CE reports to the PM and provides regular informal and formal status on technical progress. The CE identifies and communicates issues and recommends solutions—both to the PM and program team and to Dynetics executive management, as needed. The CE works in a team environment to support conceptual design through product implementation and leads the integration of flight hardware from diverse technical disciplines into a flight-certified vehicle that meets performance, schedule, and cost requirements.

Basic Qualifications

The ideal candidate has strong organization and communication (verbal and written) skills, is self-motivated, and is able to support, lead, and motivate interdisciplinary teams.

• Candidate must possess a B.S. or equivalent degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university with at least ten (10) years of hardware development experience and at least five (5) years as a team lead.
• Candidate must have experience with complex system engineering practices and processes, including the product development cycle through qualification and production.
• Candidate must also understand development program data deliverable requirements, with experience working government contracts.
• Must have expertise in one or more of the following disciplines:
  • Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I)
  • Structures and Mechanisms
  • Propulsion
  • Thermal Control
  • Avionics
  • Power Systems
  • Software
  • Assembly, Integration, and Test (Production Processes)
  • Launch Vehicle Operations
  • Spacecraft Mission Operations
  • Safety and Mission Assurance

Candidate must be a resident of or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville – North Alabama area.

Other Qualifications

• Preference will be shown to candidates who possess an M.S. or equivalent degree in engineering, preferably aerospace or mechanical, from an ABET-accredited university.
• Preference will be shown to candidates who have experience and/or knowledge of the following:
  • NASA, DoD, or other aerospace development projects
  • Integration of environmental, mechanical, and/or electrical hardware systems for NASA, DoD, or commercial programs
  • NASA systems engineering practices and processes
  • Human rating of space vehicles
  • Serving as PM, CE, and/or IPT Lead on previous space system development programs

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
