Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a talented entry-level Electrical or Computer Engineer to join a diverse team creating unique solutions for complex radar system problems. Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific, and IT Solutions engaging in the defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields.
This position is for an electrical or computer engineering internship within the Flight Systems Department as part of the Missile & Aviation Systems Division. Engineers in the Flight Systems Department provide solutions to complex, technical problems involving analysis, design, flight testing and/or autonomous solutions of various types of radars, missiles, space systems, hypersonics, acquisition systems, fixed & rotary wing aircraft, and more.
Engineering interns in this position will work closely with full-time engineers and will complete a project that will relate to design and analysis of various components of ground-based or air-based radar systems. Areas of focus within this line of work include, but are not limited to:
- Antennas and Transmit/Receive Modules
- Transmitters
- Receivers and Exciters
- Signal Processors
- Electronic Protection
- Waveform Analysis and Scheduling
- Radar Mode Logic and Supporting Algorithms
Engineers in this area perform design work and are also responsible for documenting their designs and reasoning through report writing and the occasional presentation to customers. This process is largely collaborative between the engineers, customers, and some end users in the modelling and simulation community.
This position requires a fundamental understanding of electrical and computer engineering concepts, particularly including electromagnetic wave propagation, signal processing, linear system theory, algorithm implementation and analysis, antenna theory, and linear algebra. Not all these skills are utilized by every engineer, but the set of them are used by the team as they do various projects. Programming experience, particularly in MATLAB or Python, is an advantage as they are commonly used in this industry.
Candidate must possess strong technical communication skills and an ability to work both independently and in collaborative team environments.
Candidates must be a resident of North Alabama area or willing to relocate to work on-site at the Huntsville, AL office.
Candidate must be a student currently pursuing a Bachelor’s (or graduate) Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field from an ABET accredited school with 0 – 5 years of experience and minimum GPA of 3.2.
Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering is preferred but not required. Special consideration is made for applicable experience in lieu of advanced degrees.
Familiarity/experience with DoD digital engineering paradigm.
Strong math skills in the areas of linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, probability, and calculus.
Experience with:
- Grating lobe analysis
- Transmit/Receive Module thermal analysis
- Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) processing
- Space-Time Adaptive Processing
- Digital Beamforming (Transmit and Receive)
- Radio Cross-Section (RCS) estimation techniques
- Radar waveform processing
Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
