Position Description

Dynetics, a Leidos Company, is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented problem-solver to serve as Materials Engineering Intern to support Dynetics’ Advanced Materials Department. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Advanced Materials Department is a multi-disciplinary team that provides materials engineering expertise for every phase of a program. With backgrounds in materials science, chemistry/chemical engineering, physics, among others, the department has experience in executing a variety of efforts from R&D, to prototype development, to supporting design and build tasks for manufacturing. Beyond subject matter expertise, the department has the analysis equipment, multi-physics modelling capability and experimental lab space to support activities ranging from proof-of-concept experimentation to manufacturing support.

As an integral member of the Advanced Materials Department, the successful candidate will serve as Materials Engineering Intern. This position will balance multiple activities including but not limited to:

- Solving complex engineering challenges with both analytical and experimental approaches.

- Working closely with their mentor on various support tasks beneficial to both the intern’s skill development and to the needs of the programs the department supports.

Basic Qualifications

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Materials, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Fundamental understanding of Materials Science and Engineering principles and interest in applying these to solve complex problems through analytical and/or laboratory investigations.
  • Solid technical communication skills and an ability to work in both collaborative team environments and independently.

Must be a resident of North Alabama area or willing to relocate in order to work on-site at the Huntsville, AL office

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to stay focused and succeed in dynamic and fast paced environments
  • Experience assembling and providing technical briefings and clear guidance to non-technical audiences

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Final Secret Clearance.
