Position Description

Dynetics, an employee-owned company, is seeking a talented Semiconductor Research Engineer/Scientist to help create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

A successful candidate will work closely with a highly technical multidisciplinary team consisting of scientists and engineers to perform hands-on preparation, measurement, characterization, and analysis of various semiconductor materials and devices including single components and fully-functional integrated circuits. The candidate will be expected to develop and execute research plans and methodologies related to semiconductor material and integrated circuit analysis and characterization. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, semiconductor sample preparation, test plan development, characterization using a variety of industry-standard equipment, data analysis and visualization, and briefing and report preparation.  

Basic Qualifications

A Master's Degree in Physics, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program plus five years of relevant experience in semiconductor device measurement and characterization.

A Ph. D. in the above areas may substitute for the experience requirement, assuming relevant coursework and research experience and a cumulative GPA >=3.5 in graduate coursework. 

  1. Familiarity with common methods and characterization techniques for semiconductor materials and devices. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of laboratory tools such as oscilloscopes, function generators, multimeters, and microscopes. 
  2. Hands-on experience using scanning electron microscopes for imaging semiconductor materials and devices. 
  3. Proficiency with statistical data analysis and visualization techniques. This includes the use of a programming language such as Python, Matlab, R, or similar for data analysis. 
  4. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a professional laboratory environment. This includes setting up and running common measurement equipment, designing experiments, collecting data, analyzing results, and presenting findings to stakeholders. 

Experience documenting and presenting scientific measurement processes, experiments, and results.  

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Other Qualifications

An ideal candidate would posess the following skills: 

  • Familiarity with focused ion beam systems 
  • Experience with common dry-etch techniques and systems for semiconductor device fabrication
  • Knowledge of semiconductor parameter analyzers and their use 
  • Use of wet chemistries for semiconductor device preparation and fabrication 
  • The use of micro and nano-probes for electrical device characterization
  • Advanced semiconductor characterization methods suchs as: PL, XRD, atomic force microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, and others 


Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
