Position Description

Dynetics, an employee-owned company, is seeking a talented, Space Systems Technical Lead to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the U.S. engaging in the intelligence, missiles, aviation, space, and cyber fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering and scientific solutions.

The selected individual will serve as the technical lead for fast-paced projects focused on design, procurement, build, and test of integrated propulsion systems and other space systems. The primary responsibility will be production manager for projects moving from design into the production phase—leading production planning, assembly, and integration activities for space flight hardware. As production manager, the individual will also lead the production aspects of design changes in support of review boards. The individual will also be directly involved with planning and executing testing.

Key duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the manufacturability and testability of the final design—including leading trade studies
  • Leading tooling and ground support equipment development
  • Leading production facility planning, procurement, setup, and checkout
  • Leading logistics and transportation planning
  • Managing the production workforce
  • Working to provide defect-free hardware while minimizing life cycle product cost
  • And when issues are found, leading root cause determination and corrective actions.

The individual will work closely with the project manager(s) on assigned project(s) and, as the production manager, will frequently interact with the customer. The individual will also regularly interface with department leadership and project engineers, mechanical designers, component engineers, test engineers, safety, and quality across Dynetics.

Beyond the primary task, the individual will support various projects in the Space Systems Division. Projects will involve diverse space technologies, subsystems, and integrated systems. The selected individual may use personal experience and demonstrated capability to serve as technical lead or project manager for one or more space hardware development projects.

Basic Qualifications

The position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or closely related field.

Position requires at least 10 years of experience in aerospace, with direct aerospace hardware experience.

Candidates must have demonstrated an ability to deliver results in a team environment and independently.

Applicant must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.

Candidates must be skilled with Microsoft Office software tools.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

The position requires travel and may include periods of frequent travel for critical program assembly, integration, and test activities.

Candidates must have in-depth knowledge of and experience with defense, civil, and/or commercial space engineering practices and processes, including the product development cycle through qualification and production.

Candidates must also have an understanding and/or experience with the following:

  • Thermal, fluid, and mechanical functionality and operation of space systems
  • Space hardware development, qualification, and assembly processes
  • Lean manufacturing and its application to low volume production program
  • NASA, DoD, and/or commercial space program flight hardware readiness or flight hardware acceptance processes
  • Space component and/or subsystem testing, including:
    • Developing fluid systems and schematics
    • Writing test plans and procedures
    • Operating pressurized systems
    • Working with data systems, instrumentation, and test data analysis

 

Other Qualifications

Candidates with advanced degree(s) in engineering or a related academic fields are preferred.

Experience with project planning and scheduling using Microsoft Project is preferred.

The ideal candidate will be able to support and motivate teams.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

 

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen.

Possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
