Position Description

Dynetics, an employee-owned company, is seeking a talented Digital Design Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Product Engineering Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware products. The individual selected for this position will be a design engineer with varied technical interests and demonstrated engineering skills. The individual must be a self-starter with experience working with inter-disciplinary teams to solve challenging technical problems. The engineer will work closely with hardware integrated into a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems.

The selected candidate will be expected to execute in a fast-paced, small team environment through all phases of the product life cycle from conceptual development and detailed design through manufacturing, qualification testing, and post-delivery support. The engineer will be responsible for developing robust hardware solutions. The engineer’s primary job functions include architecting, implementing, and testing firmware solutions targeting Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) or System-on-a-Chips (SoCs). Additional skills to assist design teams with circuit and Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) design and analysis, technical trade studies, and evaluation of technology improvements are a plus. Experience designing and implementing Digital Signal Processing (DSP) functions is desired.

With a product focus, the individual is also expected to actively partner with other engineers, project managers, technicians, and the customer to develop solutions that adhere to a diverse set of requirements. Additionally, the engineer will support resolution of technical issues that are discovered during the manufacture and test of deliverable hardware. This will include troubleshooting board-level issues, assessing failures for root cause, and identifying corrective actions.


Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.

Candidate must have at least 2 years of experience in FPGA and/or SoC system design and test from architecture through implementation.

Candidate must have hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods.

Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.


Other Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who possess an Electrical Engineering Degree or Computer Engineering Degree with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Preferred candidates will also meet some of the following:

  • Experience with VHDL and embedded C/C++
  • Familiarity with modern Xilinx FPGA and SoC families and design tools (7-series FPGAs, Ultrascale+, Zynq-7000, Ultrascale Zynq, RFSoC, Vivado, Xilinx IP cores)
  • Experience with multiple high-speed serial communication standards and interfaces (e.g. Aurora, 10Ge, PCIe, DDR4/3/2/1, JESD204B)
  • Experience with standard internal interfaces such as AXI4, AXI4-Stream, AXI4-Lite
  • Experience developing and implementing FPGA-optimized versions of DSP algorithms (e.g. modulation/demodulation, PLLs, filters, image processing)
  • Experience working with SoC designs such as Zynq and Zynq Ultrascale+ including architecting and interfacing with peripherals, interrupts, and related bus architectures
  • Experience working with embedded operating systems
  • Working knowledge of digital/analog/mixed signal electronics, components, and interface/communication standards
  • Experience with FPGA/SoC PCBA hardware design
