Position Description

Dynetics, an employee-owned company, is seeking a talented Embedded Software Developer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Product Engineering Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware products. The individual selected for this position will be a design engineer with varied technical interests and demonstrated engineering skills. The individual must be a self-starter with experience working with inter-disciplinary teams to solve challenging technical problems. The engineer will work closely with electronics integrated into a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems.

The Embedded Software Developer will be expected to execute in a fast-paced, small team environment through all phases of the product life cycle from conceptual development and detailed implementation through manufacturing, qualification testing, and post-delivery support. The engineer will be responsible for developing robust software solutions. The engineer’s primary job functions include architecting, implementing, and testing embedded software solutions targeting microprocessors, SoCs, and FPGAs.

With a product focus, the individual is also expected to actively partner with other engineers, project managers, technicians and the customer to develop solutions that adhere to a diverse set of requirements. Additionally, the engineer will support resolution of technical issues that are discovered during the development, integration, and test of deliverable products. This will include troubleshooting issues, assessing bugs and deficiencies for root cause, and identifying corrective actions.

Basic Qualifications

Possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution. 

At least 3 years of design experience centered around microcontrollers, microprocessors, or FPGAs

Demonstrate a working knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, JAVA, Ada, Rust, Assembly

Experience with communication protocols (UART, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN)

Experience with software versioning and release cycles

Hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods for both software and hardware

Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

 

Other Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Preferred candidates will also meet some of the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering or related discipline with a 3.5 or higher GPA
  • Working knowledge of RISC microprocessors architectures (ARM Cortex, PowerPC, RISC-V, Microblaze)
  • Experience with embedded operating systems (Linux, VxWorks, Integrity, FreeRTOS, uC/OS-II) 
  • Experience executing control algorithms on microprocessors
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet-based networking protocols (UDP, TCP, ARP, IGMP)
  • Experience with firmware architecture and design for FPGA/SoCs (VHDL, Xilinx IP Cores, AXI4, AXI-Steam) 
  • Working knowledge of memory architectures, types, and caching
  • Experience with GNU/Linux and developing kernel drivers
  • Experience with electronics and PCBA design
  • Experience with software testing (unit testing, HWIL) 

 

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen.

Possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
