Position Description

Dynetics, and employee-owned company, is seeking a talented FPGA and Microcontroller Hacker to join a diverse team to create unique solution for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific, and IT solutions.

The FPGA and Microcontroller Reverse Engineer will join our multidisciplinary team of engineers to solve technically challenging problems with innovative, cost-effective solutions in support of foreign weapon reverse engineering. This challenging position will allow for the opportunity to contribute immediately to important, meaningful work while working directly with a diverse team of experienced engineers.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reverse-engineering FPGA bitstream and configuration data
  • Disassembling microcontroller binaries
  • Decompiling C programs
  • Utilizing specialized lab equipment to extract data from various integrated circuits.

This work includes developing custom hardware techniques, as well as custom software to aid and automate the reverse-engineering of various types of software and firmware binaries. This position will have responsibility for the characterization and vulnerability analysis of software and firmware embedded within missile and radar systems.


Basic Qualifications

Candidate must possess a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Candidate must have education and/or work experience in FPGA or ASIC design and verification.

Candidate must demonstrated experience with hardware description languages including Verilog or VHDL.

Candidate must have education or work experience in embedded software design.

Candidate must have experience with FPGA or ASIC synthesis and simulation tools.

Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of various FPGA and computer architectures.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience using C++/C and assembly languages.

Candidate must have knowledge of developing test procedures and hardware instrumentation.

The position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidates must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.


Other Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Preferred candidates will also have experience and/or working knowledge with:

  • HDL test bench design
  • Hardware/software co-design
  • Hardware protocol analysis
  • Software reverse engineering
  • Hardware reverse engineering
  • Device physics and failure analysis
  • VLSI circuit design


Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen.

Possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Top Secret/SSBI Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Final Top Secret Clearance.
