Position Description

Dynetics, an employee-owned company, is seeking a talented Weapon System Electrical Design Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Product Engineering Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware products. The individual selected for this position will be a design engineer with varied technical interests and demonstrated engineering skills. The individual must be a self-starter with experience working with inter-disciplinary teams to solve challenging technical problems. The engineer will work closely with electronics integrated into a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems.

The Weapon System Electrical Design Engineer will be expected to execute in a fast-paced, small team environment through all phases of the product life cycle from conceptual development and detailed design through manufacturing, qualification testing, and post-delivery support. The engineer will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and testing tactical weapon systems including power distribution, sensor integration, custom printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), interconnects and harnesses, ordnance, fuzing, instrumentation, datalinks, and platform interfaces. The engineer will also be responsible for conducting technical trade studies, supporting flight test events, and evaluating technology improvements. 

With a product focus, the individual is also expected to actively partner with other engineers, project managers, technicians and the customer to develop solutions that adhere to a diverse set of requirements. Additionally, the engineer will support resolution of technical issues that are discovered during the manufacture and test of deliverable products. This will include troubleshooting board-level issues, assessing failures for root cause, and identifying corrective actions


Basic Qualifications

Possess a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Candidate must have at least 5+ years of relevant experience.

Candidate must have experience in the design, test, troubleshooting, and manufacture circuit card assemblies and electrical interconnects.

Candidate must have experience with electrical design and integration of electronic assemblies with size, weight, and power (SWaP) constrains in harsh environments. 

Candidate must have demonstrated knowledge tactical weapon systems and components.

Candidate must have experience in electrical design and test across a full product life-cycle.

Candidate must we willing to travel (<10% CONUS) to support test events. 

Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.


Other Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Preferred candidates will also meet some of the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering with a 3.5 or higher GPA
  • Experience with tactical communication interfaces and standards (e.g. RS422, SDLC, MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760)
  • Experience with printed circuit board design including rigid-flex, microvia, blind via, and buried processes
  • Basic C/VHDL proficiency
  • Experience with EMI/EMC troubleshooting
  • Experience with designing fuzing and ordnance systems and coordinating with weapon systems safety review boards (NNMSB, AWSSRB, and WSESRB) . 
  • Experience with integrating and/or developing flight telemetry and termination systems according to standards (e.g. IRIG-106, RCC-319).
  • Experience managing design teams including technical leadership, budgeting, and scheduling

Candidate must be a US Citizen.

Possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
