Position Description

Dynetics Technical Solutions, Inc. (DTS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Dynetics, Inc. The Strategic Programs office is seeking a qualified Thermal and Fluid Systems Engineer for its Hypersonics line of business. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics Technical Solutions provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Senior Engineer will lead the development of advanced thermal and fluid transport systems, from the concept level through integration, testing, and delivery to government customers. The engineer will work with a team of engineers, designers, etc. from various backgrounds and work independently to ensure system designs meet performance, volume, and weight requirements. Systems under development will include pneumatic, hydraulic, and multi-phase components and technologies. These systems will be required to provide active cooling and/or mechanical power.

Responsibilities associated with the position include:

  • Development, integration, and testing of thermal and fluid systems related to high-energy lasers and/or flight vehicle launchers that employ hydraulics
  • Development of engineering solutions and troubleshooting
  • Identifying risks and opportunities to either mitigate or exploit them
  • Effective communication of information between various engineering disciplines and project roles
  • Systems engineering related roles including, but not limited to, the development and oversight of requirement and planning documents
  • Supplier management to ensure external tasks are completed on time and budget
  • Test engineering oversight roles including, but not limited to, the development of thermal and fluid system related test capabilities and execution of tests
  • Coordination of activities with internal and external safety and quality departments
  • Reporting to program management and government customers on project progress

Basic Qualifications

The position requires a B.S. in engineering, preferably aerospace or mechanical, from an ABET accredited school with at least twelve (12) years of directly related experience or a M.S. with ten (10) years of directly related experience.

Candidates must have experience working with pneumatics, hydraulics, thermal systems, thermal storage devices, and advanced cooling technologies.

Candidates must have in-depth knowledge of and experience with fluid-system prime movers, controls, and heat exchangers with design experience at both the component and system level.

The position requires some, infrequent travel.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Other Qualifications

Candidates must have demonstrated an ability to deliver results in a team environment and independently. The ideal candidate has strong organization and communication (verbal and written) skills, is self-motivated, and is able to support and motivate teams. Project management experience as well as experience testing hardware and/or subsystems will be considered favorably.

Candidates must be proficient with Microsoft Office software tools, including project planning and scheduling and experience with Microsoft Project.

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
