Position Description

Dynetics, an employee-owned company, is seeking a talented Embedded Systems Design Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The individual selected for this position will be a design engineer with varied technical interests and demonstrated engineering skills across both hardware and software. The individual must be a self-starter with experience working with inter-disciplinary teams to solve challenging technical problems. The engineer will work closely with hardware integrated into a range of military munition systems.

This position will involve circuit board design and test primarily for military applications. Work duties include component selection, schematic design and capture, board level testing and debugging, and system level integration and testing, and engineering documentation. Systems under design incorporate a combination of skillsets spanning both digital and analog. This position will provide the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting projects in a fast-paced environment, with an emphasis on microcontroller-based embedded hardware and firmware products. The position will include significant interaction with other design engineers, project managers, technicians, circuit board layout personnel, and manufacturing personnel.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
  • Experience with checkout, debug, and troubleshooting of electronic printed circuit board assemblies comprising embedded hardware and firmware is required.
  • Proficient in programming C/C++ low level algorithms.
  • Motivated self-starter and problem solver with experience executing in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Candidate must be a US citizen and a resident of the Huntsville, AL area (or willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area).

Other Qualifications

Familiarity or experience with any of the following would be a plus:

  • Hardware/PCB Design
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods for both software and hardware.
  • Interfacing to sensors
  • Working Knowledge of the following protocols : UART, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN
  • Python programming
  • GUI development
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
  • Altium Designer schematic capture software

Candidates with demonstrated experience in these areas are preferred.

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
