Position Description

Dynetics is seeking a talented Test Engineer to join a diverse, highly skilled team to create unique solutions for complex problems involving propulsion systems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost effective intelligence, engineering, and scientific solutions.

Space Systems Division is seeking engineers to join a diverse team in support of the development of a prototype rocket-powered countermeasure test fixture that will assist the U.S. Air Force in testing aircraft flares and other devices.

The Test Engineer will support the Dynetics Space Systems Division with development of DOTC Sled with primary responsibility to test systems, subsystems, and components. The selected individual will serve as lead test engineer for a fast-paced task focused on design and development of the DOTC Sled rocket-powered vehicle and the associated test range. The individual will work to understand and finalize requirements, generate designs, solicit and procure supplier-provided hardware, and lead the build and checkout of the vehicle and the facility on time and budget. The individual will also interface with project managers, mechanical designers, component engineers, other test engineers, safety, and quality with Dynetics.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop schematics and facility layouts
  • Create test procedures
  • Conduct tests
  • Lead test data analysis and completion of requirements verification and validation documentation and reports.



Basic Qualifications

Candidate must possess a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Candidate must have at least three (3) years of experience in hardware development and implementation.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience with complex system engineering practices and processes.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience with thermal, fluid, and mechanical systems engineering, analysis, and testing.

Candidate must have experience designing and constructing test articles and facilities within budget and tight schedule constraints.

Candidate must have experience with safe handling of high pressure systems.

Candidates must have direct, hands-on experience with system, subsystem, and/or component testing including:

  • Developing fluid systems and schematics
  • Experience writing test plans and procedures
  • Experience operating pressurized systems
  • Understanding of data systems, instrumentation, and test data analysis
  • Experience writing test plans and procedures
  • Capabilities with electrical and mechanical system troubleshooting

Candidate must be proficient with industry-standard data acquisition systems.

Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.

The position requires travel, including periods of frequent travel for critical program assembly, integration, and test activities.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.


Other Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Preference will be shown to candidates who have experience and/or knowledge of the following:

  • Rocket propulsion development projects
  • LabView data acquisition system operation and basic programing.
  • Projects with extensive mechanical, electromechanical, or thermofluid system design and development

Candidate must be a US Citizen.

Candidate must possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
