Position Description

Dynetics has been selected by NASA to participate in the development and demonstration of a Human Landing System (HLS). Dynetics is seeking project engineers, systems engineers, mechanical design engineers, electrical engineers, structural and thermal analysts, manufacturing engineers, test engineers, technicians, and operators to join a diverse team in support of the development of the HLS that will carry the first woman and next man to the Moon by 2024.

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a talented RCS Lead Engineer to join a diverse, highly skilled team to create unique solutions for complex problems involving space systems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost effective intelligence, engineering, and scientific solutions.

The RCS Lead Engineer will support the Dynetics Space Systems Division with development of HLS with primary responsibility to design, analyze, procure, test, and integrate the lunar lander reaction control system. The selected individual will serve as lead engineer for a fast-paced task focused on design and development of space flight propulsion systems. The individual will work with the interdisciplinary propulsion team to integrate the RCS into the vehicle and conduct testing to ensure the hardware meets overall performance requirements. The individual will lead a team in design, analysis, development testing, and ultimately qualification and vehicle integration of the RCS. The individual will also interface with project managers, mechanical designers, component engineers, other test engineers, safety, and quality with Dynetics.

Basic Qualifications

Candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Candidate must have at least ten (10) years of propulsion design and development experience with NASA, DoD, or commercial launch or space vehicle development.

Candidate must have experience designing and constructing hardware for liquid rocket engine applications within budget and schedule constraints.

Candidate must have an understanding of fluid mechanics and thermal, flow rate, and mass requirements.

Candidate must demonstrate understanding of various component designs for liquid rocket engine applications.

Candidate must be able to write clear, concise, and comprehensive technical reports and present results to multi-disciplinary teams and customer stakeholders.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating both verbally and in writing.

Candidate must have demonstrated ability to deliver results in a team environment and independently.

Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

 

Other Qualifications

Preference will be shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Preference will be shown to candidates who have experience and/or knowledge of the following:

  • Small rocket engine designs, issues, and solutions.
  • Reaction control system concepts, FMEA, issues, and solutions
  • Development testing experience in a fast-paced environment
  • NASA, DoD, or other aerospace development projects
  • Project planning and scheduling using Microsoft Project
  • Performing as an individual contributor within a short time period
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams

 

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US citizen.

Candidate must possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
