Position Description

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a talented, self-motivated Aerospace or Electrical Engineer, or Scientist for simulation and post processing algorithm development to join a multi-discipline engineering team in support of the development of Avionics products design, development, analysis, and test. The end products are avionics systems that provide time, space, position, guidance, navigation, control and automated flight termination capability. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The candidate will design and develop in-flight, post processing and estimation algorithms for complex flight vehicle configurations and flight envelopes including high-dynamic scenarios. The position requires a fundamental of modeling and estimation techniques, coupled with a solid base of programming experience. Candidate must have an interest in modeling and simulation, analysis, and problem-solving. These skills will be used in the creation of detailed algorithms, estimation techniques and test scenarios to support complete end-to-end test and evaluation of: strategic/tactical missile systems, glide munitions, and manned/unmanned vehicles.

The successful applicant will work closely with a highly technical team of multi-disciplinary engineers to provide accurate and timely analysis of flight vehicle systems' performance and capabilities, and to verify/validate system models.

The work will evolve into hardware in the loop simulation, and flight test support. Work may cover both new and existing air vehicles. The work will engage in module level testing, system level testing, debugging, and documentation, in addition to authoring code. As part of a team the work will use configuration management tools and other development tools and methods to ensure a quality product.

This position may require travel for meetings and test events.

Basic Qualifications

Position requires a Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited school in Engineering, Math or Science with 5+ years of applicable experience or a Master's Degree in Engineering, Math or Science with 3+ years of applicable experience or a PhD in Engineering, Math or Physics with applicable course and research work.

  • Candidate must have familiarity with linear and nonlinear attitude estimation methods, e.g., extended Kalman filters, batch smoother based on quadratic and cubic programs, sigma-point filters, particle filters
  • Candidate must possess knowledge of state estimation techniques and their application to aerospace physical systems
  • Candidate must possess knowledge or have a willingness to learn and apply algorithms for trajectory estimation and reconstruction
  • Candidate must have familiarity with Global Navigation Satellite System fundamentals and application
  • Candidate must have experience with Matlab, Simulink and basic programming concepts
  • Candidate must have interest in and basic familiarity with the analysis of physical systems, to include simulation development and maintenance, and hardware-in-the-loop development, application and validation

Excellent communication and inter-personal skills are required, as the successful candidate must function effectively in a team environment and interact with program stakeholders.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama area.

  • Experience with Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) for missiles and/or launch vehicles
  • Knowledge of GPS receiver operation, integration and test
  • Experience with GPS simulators
  • Experience with GPS antennas including Anti-Jam antennas
  • Organizational skills to document designs, assist with Technical Data Packages (TDP) and support production and test production Avionics systems

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
