Position Description

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a talented Quality Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Quality Engineer will support the Dynetics Space Systems Division with development of space products and systems with primary responsibility for oversight of safety and mission assurance processes, product audits, and processes to develop and manufacture large structure and mechanical assemblies. Candidates will work with Program Managers, Chief Engineers, Structure and Mechanical IPTs to ensure tasks are completed with focus of higher level quality assurance, on-time delivery, and achieving technical objectives. Candidates will serve as the day-to-day quality assurance technical interface with subcontractors, Program IPTs and Customers (NASA S&MA and DCMA). Candidates will report to program leadership and will provide regular informal and formal status on quality assurance activities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assures that customer and program quality imposed technical requirements are adhered to and that program required quality management systems are maintained
  • Provide on-site supplier development support in manufacturing and quality management system processes
  • Perform surveillance and audit activities designed to manage, monitor, and improve quality / workmanship performance
  • Establish positive working relationships while addressing compliant issues with in-process and delivered hardware and overall quality management practices
  • Perform process and product audits along with capacity assessments to ensure that processes are robust and capable
  • Work to prevent/minimize business impact from supplied material defects and work to limit risk mitigation issues
  • Perform and/or coordinate specification compliance reviews, first article inspections, and source inspections
  • Initiate corrective action requests and work with quality assurance, manufacturing, and engineering personnel to identify root causes and ensure robust corrective actions are implemented
  • Lead and report on quality performance management activities by analyzing performance data and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Perform investigations into quality issues that may require using a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation to ensure that robust corrective actions are implemented
  • Communicate with customer and government quality assurance representatives, NASA & DCMA
  • Interface with Program Managers, Supplier Quality, Program IPT, NASA S&MA and DCMA

Basic Qualifications

Candidate must possess a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with at least (8) eight years of relevant experience with structures and mechanical systems.

In lieu of degree, High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of (15) fifteen years of experience in quality engineering under an AS9100 system or equivalent experience in NASA, DOD or aerospace manufacturing quality control.

Candidate must have working knowledge of AS9100 or equivalent Quality Management System.

Candidate must be able to work with project managers, quality engineers, design & manufacturing engineers, and suppliers to ensure quality requirements are understood and communicated effectively.

Candidate must have the ability to read and interpret blue prints/schematics, CAD models, specifications and contract quality requirements.

Candidate must be able to communicate with customer and government quality assurance representatives, NASA & DCMA

Candidate must be able to demonstrate personal organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work with people across the Dynetics and supplier’s organizations.

Experience using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook) and the ability to write technical documents is required.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.

The position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering and manufacturing environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidate must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Other Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who have experience with:

  • NASA Safety and Mission Assurance experience
  • DoD or other aerospace development projects
  • NASA systems engineering practices and processes
  • Human rating of space hardware and systems
  • Served as a Quality SME on previous hardware development programs
  • Implemented QMS in a design, development and manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a start-up environment

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen.

Candidate must possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
