Position Description

Dynetics Technical Solutions (DTS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Dynetics, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager with experience in machining, weld fabrication, and Aerospace Assembly to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The position will be responsible for managing a team of 6-12 manufacturing engineers in creating and continuously improving the manufacturing processes related to machining, weld fabrication, and assembly. The candidate will report to the Operations Manager, Engineering. The candidate will provide technical expertise and management within a team while coordinating with other managers and manufacturing engineers to develop and implement those processes that meet engineering requirements for complex aerospace and defense hardware, both prototypes and production, in a variety of materials including Inconel, Titanium, Aluminum, and composites.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Management of the daily execution of engineering support for numerous programs and the coordination with other engineering groups
  • Proficient with 3D CAD/CAM software including modeling, ASSY, BOM, drawing creation
  • Supporting program meetings, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews
  • Conducting Production/Manufacturing Readiness Reviews
  • Work with manufacturing engineers to integrate component machining and assembly
  • Review work instructions created through the team of engineers
  • Coordinate with supply chain for outside process technical review and audit
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems, using a data driven approach
  • Manage the review of preliminary product designs. Assists in making recommendations to reduce costs and improve manufacturability and quality on new or existing parts
  • Provide shop-floor support as necessary to resolve technical and manufacturing issues
  • Work with the Estimating team, provide production times & related costing when quoting new work
  • Utilize root cause analysis, preventative and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances
  • Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers
  • Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives
  • Analyze and evaluate manufacturing methods and standards problems providing solutions that positively affect cost, operator safety, productivity and quality
  • Identify areas of unnecessary cost and research documented methods and procedures for cost reductions
  • Assist the manufacturing team with the development, justification, and execution of long range plans to meet corporate objectives.

  • Assist in developing fabrication and assembly fixtures
  • Assist in developing project set-up and changeover procedures
  • Recognize current production problems, issues and address in planning updates
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Material Science, or Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering (or related field)
  • Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing / material and process / composites / welding / manufacturing / machining / modeling design experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading others to complete complex development tasks
  • Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills
  • Positive attitude with a focus on solving problems in a team atmosphere
  • Proficiency with PC’s (Microsoft Office) and CAD software
  • ERP/MRP experience with BOM and Planning
  • Ability to read and interpret drawing with GD&T
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and mechanic skills
  • Familiarity with ISO9000 and AS9100 industry standards, and common military specifications
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Other Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who have experience and/or working knowledge of:

  • 3 years’ of engineering management experience
  • 5 years’ experience in materials and process, composites, manufacturing or machining, in Aerospace or Defense environment
  • Significant experience with development programs
  • SolidWorks, CREO, CATIA experience
  • CostPoint ERP/MRP experience
  • Lean Manufacturing Principles and Application
  • Tooling and Fixture Design
  • Certified GD&T knowledge
  • Military and Aerospace assembly techniques

    Security Requirements

    Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
