Position Description

Dynetics a wholly-owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a talented Mid to Senior Optical Engineer to join a diverse, highly-skilled team to create unique solutions for complex problems involving research systems and advanced sensor technology. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost effective intelligence, engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The successful Mid to Senior Optical Engineer will support the Advanced Materials department in developing optical systems for use in advanced sensors and novel composite material processing systems. The candidate will work with the project managers, researchers, scientists, and engineers develop requirements, design, integrate, and test optical components and systems.

Basic Qualifications

Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Candidate must have at least five (5) years of direct experience designing and analyzing optical components and systems.

Candidate must have experience developing and analyzing sequential and non-sequential optical models with Zemax, Code V, or similar.

Candidate must have proven experience working with multi-functional teams in taking systems from requirement definition through design and implementation while ensuring project schedules and budgets are achieved.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Other Qualifications

Preference will be shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Preference shown to candidates who have experience and/or working knowledge of:

  • Optical component and system design
  • Integration and alignment of optical components into mechanical systems
  • Tolerance specification and analysis of optical components and mounting systems
  • Requirements gathering and development of optical components to be integrated into complex systems
  • Modeling of thermal and stress effects of optical components and systems
  • Experience selecting and integrating opto-electronics such as lasers, photodiodes, beam profilers, and spectrometers
  • Specifying and characterizing optical coatings
  • 3D CAD experience with SolidWorks or similar
  • GDT&E
  • Working as part of multi-company and multi-organizational development teams

Self-motivation with the ability to handle priorities across multiple projects simultaneously

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Top Secret/SSBI Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Final Top Secret Clearance.
