Position Description

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a talented Senior FPGA Firmware Lead to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Product Engineering Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware-based solutions. The individual selected for this position will be an FPGA firmware design lead with proven leadership skills and a technical background of implementing FPGA firmware designs. The engineer will lead small teams of varying experience levels to execute, from architecture through to delivery, the development of embedded systems utilizing FPGAs or SoCs. The candidate will lead FPGA and SoC-based development projects supporting a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space applications. The selected candidate will have digital design expertise and leadership experience. Experience developing datalink designs and utilizing digital signal processing (DSP) techniques is a plus

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution with a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Candidate must have 10+ years of experience in FPGA system design and test from architecture through implementation and hardware test
  • Candidate must have 2+ years of experience leading teams of developers
  • Candidate must have proven experience with programming and/or hardware description languages such as: C, C++, VHDL, Verilog, assembly
  • Candidate must have experience with common communication protocols such as: UART, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN bus, etc.
  • Position requires candidate to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area

Other Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution with a 3.5 or higher GPA

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university

Preference shown to candidates who also possess:

  • 15+ years of experience in FPGA system design and test
  • 5+ years of technical leadership experience
  • Experience leading teams utilizing Agile Scrum methods
  • Experience implementing high speed interfaces (PCIe, Aurora, 100GbE)
  • Experience with SoC and microcontroller development in addition to FPGAs
  • Experience in high-end modern Xilinx FPGAs and/or SoC families 
  • Strong DSP, datalink, or communication algorithm implementation skills

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
