Dynetics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a Threat Weapon Optical Engineer to join our team in Huntsville, AL. The qualified applicant will cover Safety engineering and analysis on a wide variety of projects and programs, from aerospace and DOD/Military Hardware, to commercial products.
The Threat Weapon Optical Engineer will analyze and characterize existing reflective and refractive optical components and systems. Characterization will include optical prescriptions, optical coatings, and the overall configuration of the optical system. The goal of this analysis will be to describe the threat capabilities and vulnerabilities against the U.S. systems that oppose it. Test setups will be developed to verify analysis and further characterize the optical system, including emitters and sensors. Optical component and system modeling will be performed using industry standard software. Modeling will concentrate on both sequential and non-sequential ray trace analysis.
The Foreign Weapon Systems branch goals include the characterization, analysis, testing, and ultimate defeat of all types of threat weapons systems including foreign missiles and radars. This group concentrates primarily on electrical, sensor, optical, and firmware aspects of the systems, but will engage any part of the system that advances our goals. This is hands-on work involving actual threat weapon hardware. Our team develops equipment to control and test these threats in a Hardware-in-the-Loop environment. We also specialize in the development of countermeasure concepts and equipment.

Ability to perform hands on alignment, calibration and testing of optical systems, mirror systems and EO-IR hardware.
Experience with optical test equipment including monochromators, spectrometers, and laser interferometers.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Candidate must be a resident of or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL, area.
Preference will be shown to candidates with demonstrated skills in any of the following areas:
Target tracking optical systems.
Target tracking algorithms.
Infrared and electro-optic sensors.
Use of blackbody, lamp, and laser based emitters.
