Position Description

The Strategic Programs office of Dynetics Technical Solutions (DTS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Dynetics, is seeking a qualified Mechanical Project Engineer for its directed energy line of business to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics Technical Solutions provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The successful candidate will serve as a Mechanical Project Engineer that will support design, development, and integration tasks for High Energy Laser (HEL) systems and subsystems. Advanced technical planning, estimating, scheduling, leadership of internal resources and suppliers, practical application of mechanical system designs, and requirements verification will be required. Further, experience with project/task management, team leadership, meeting system engineering requirements, technical documentation, hardware integration operations, and configuration management are highly desired. Part of the responsibilities of this posting will also be ensuring that Earned Value Management milestones are being met and acting as the team Cost Account Manager. Finally, the candidate will participate in major program test events and will oversee development of system and test requirements and procedures.

Responsibilities associated with the position include:

  • Development and execution of plans, schedules, and budgets and identifying risks and opportunities to either mitigate or exploit them
  • Leading a team of engineers and technicians across multiple disciplines to deliver major subsystems of directed energy systems
  • Effective communication of information between various engineering disciplines and project roles
  • Development of engineering solutions and troubleshooting related to mechanical and fluid control systems
  • Coordination of hardware procurement
  • Supplier management to ensure external tasks are completed on time and budget
  • Coordination of activities with internal and external safety and quality departments
  • Reporting to management on project progress

Basic Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field from an ABET accredited school is required.

Candidate should have at least 5+ years of relevant experience with the responsibilities listed above in the development, fabrication, and/or testing of mechanical or fluid controls system.

Candidate must have demonstrated an ability to deliver results in a team environment and independently.

The ideal candidate has strong organization and communication (verbal and written) skills, is self-motivated, and is able to support and motivate teams. Candidate must also be able to clearly and concisely present technical and team status to program and senior management.

Candidate must have experience with Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Project and demonstrate strong organizational skills to document designs, assist with Technical Data Packages (TDP), and support production and test of directed energy systems.

Other desired qualifications include:

  • Experience with design of mechanical aspects in mobile platform/weapon system applications and test equipment
  • Experience with Creo Elements/Pro (formerly Pro/ENGINEER)
  • Knowledge of mechanical structural systems including cast, forged and machined parts
  • Experience with compatible materials, fasteners, coatings, processes and assembly methods
  • Knowledge of ASME drawing standards
  • Able to organize and facilitate technical supplier coordination meetings
  • Able to prepare status reports that accurately reflect status of project
  • Experience with Earned Value Management schedule and tracking

Other Qualifications

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Well qualified candidates should have direct, hands-on experience with the development of fluid control systems and operating pressurized equipment.

Security Requirements
